Initially I bought this to check a car I was buying. I Love having it so I can easily scan my car.
This is really cool! I plugged it into my 2015 chevy colorado, connected it to my phone, and viola! There was nothing difficult and the whole thing took 30 seconds. I was worried about am i going to be able to stream radio or calls from my phone while using this and I'm happy to say that wasn't a problem at all. I'm currently using it with the application Torque Pro on my phone, which is going to take significantly longer to learn than hooking up this sensor.
Fixed my fault codes no problems!
Good basic tool to use to pull codes, reading bluetooth to my phone is nice and works very well, I was able to walk about 20ft from car into the garage to read the program on my phone. I purchased the Torque Pro program on my phone for $5 to read the issues and works great, after you get the codes you can click them and go online to see a more detailed description of the issue, you can also send a copy of the codes to email or text. I did purchase an 1ft extension cable to connect it to since my OBD connection is a little awkward to get too. Just a couple notes after you read the issues do not clear the codes until you fix the problem, or think you have, also in no way is this like a professional mechanic code reader, they can look into things and levels this can't, but this is a good basic reader to give you a heads up on whats going on, no surprises from the mechanic.
Works great so far. Had my vceck engine light come on. I thought it was the gas cap, used this, got the code (gas cap) reset the code and fixed the cap. Saved me money.
It easily fits into the plug in spot under my dash on my car and easily connected to the Google play store app of my choice for OBD2 readers. No hassle, with quick reads, this was a no-brainer.
I use it off my Iphone 6. I downloaded OBD CarDoctor from the apple store. Plug in the BFX Scan Tool. Turn the ignition on (doesn't need to the running). Went to setting on Iphone, then hit Wi-Fi and link it. Opened OBD CarDoctor App and connected right away. Found my code and a brief description about the code. Trouble shoot the issue, Cleared the code. Very happy with the results of this product. "DashCommand" for 10 bucks is a very powerful, award winning program. The other free apps are great for reading engine codes/clearing and on time engine rpm, temp, oil pressure, etc.
I did end up buying the DashCommand App. Well worth it to me. The apps update as the years go by for free
I like these types of scanners better than the handheld ones. Once you buy a handheld scanner (for more money) you get the latest of updates but then as the year or years roll by its out of date. If I work on a friends brand new 2017 car, I would need to buy a new handheld scanner or pay more money for an update again.
Had to read the instructions to connect to my car and iPhone. This unit connects to either iPhone or Android via WiFi (NOT Bluetooth), so I had to connect to my iPhone 7 thru the WiFi settings on my iPhone first, then connected thru the OBD Fusion App to my car. Once everything was connected, I was able to see why I was getting a check engine light, and the code for it. I was able to track down the offending part and have the dealer send me the part, which took about 5 minutes to replace. I paid $30 for the BFX scan tool, and $10 for the OBD Fusion App for my iPhone 7, but I figured I saved at least $70 by not having to drive to the car dealer and have them diagnose and replace the part, which would've easily been $100 labor plus the mileage. As a bonus, this unit will work on my other two vehicles, plus those of my friends and family.
There is a free app that that came with the instructions for this unit that you can download, but after reading other reviews, I understand that if you want to DO anything useful with that app, you have to buy those options. I downloaded OBD Fusion for $9.99 from the App Store, and with it, I can see EVERYTHING, including real-time data (RPM, engine temp, etc), and the error codes, which I can clear out from the vehicle through the app.
Absolutely excellent device. It has already saved me over $1,000. I had a repair shop telling me I needed a new transmission. I bought this scan tool, downloaded a free app (there are many), and saw that the only significant transmission code was a faulty turbine speed sensor. I replaced the sensor myself for $25 and the transmission behaves like new.
I've had other bluetooth OBDII scan tools, and this is the only one that actually works. And the company stands behind it completely. I am impressed not only with the device, but also with the company, whose owner contacted me directly just to see if I was satisfied. I am.
